Submerged arc furnace is also called electric arc furnace or electric resistance furnace. It is mainly used to reduce smelting ore, carbonaceous reducing agent, solvent and other raw materials. It mainly produces ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, ferrochrome, ferrotungsten, silicon-manganese alloy and other iron alloys, and is an important industrial raw material in metallurgical industry and chemical raw material such as calcium carbide.
Its working characteristics are that carbon or magnesium refractory materials are used as furnace lining and self-training electrodes are used. It is an industrial electric furnace in which the electrode is inserted into the furnace charge for submerged arc operation, the energy generated by the electric arc energy and current passing through the furnace charge due to the resistance of the furnace charge is used to melt the metal, feed successively, discharge the slag intermittently and operate continuously. The load of submerged arc furnace transformer is continuous and stable, the impedance voltage is low, the number of voltage regulation stages is large, the level difference is small and the overload capacity is strong. It can be divided into on-load and off-load voltage regulation. Generally, the first constant capacity output and the last constant current output.
Structural features of submerged arc furnace:
Submerged arc furnace is an industrial electric furnace with huge power consumption. It is mainly composed of furnace shell, furnace cover, furnace lining, short network, water cooling system, smoke exhaust system, dust removal system, electrode shell, electrode pressure release and lifting system, loading and unloading system, holder, burnthrough device, hydraulic system, submerged arc furnace transformer and various electrical equipment, etc.
Based on the structure and working characteristics of the submerged arc furnace, 70% of the system reactance of the submerged arc furnace is generated by the short network system. The short network is a system with large current, and the maximum current can reach thousands of amperes. Therefore, the performance of the short network determines the performance of the submerged arc furnace. It is for this reason that the natural power factor of the submerged arc furnace is difficult to reach 0.85 or above. The natural power factor of most furnaces is 0.7-0.8. The lower power factor not only reduces the efficiency of the transformer, consumes a lot of reactive power, but also is charged by the power department. Meanwhile, due to the manual control of the electrode and the stacking process, the power among the three phases is resulted. The unbalance increases, and the maximum unbalance degree can reach more than 20%, which leads to low smelting efficiency and increased electricity cost, Therefore, improving the power factor of the short network and reducing the imbalance of the power grid become effective means to reduce energy consumption and improve smelting efficiency. If proper measures are taken to improve the power factor of short network, the following effects can be achieved:
(1) Reduce power consumption by 5-20%;
(2) Increase output by more than 5% - 10%.
Application of submerged arc furnace equipment:
Submerged arc furnace is mainly used to produce iron alloy (such as ferrotungsten-field, high-carbon ferromanganese, high-carbon ferrosilicon, high-carbon chromium, ferronickel alloy) and industrial silicon, calcium carbide, corundum, yellow phosphorus, etc.
